Unlike others here, I didn't sign up for anything, or even intentially use their site, years ago I would sometimes look up a phone number or address online, and there were many sites offering this free service, however, since the demise of phone books, apparently all sites like those are now scams and it is very hard to look up simple information that used to be in phone books. Anyway, I looked for my friend's street address today, at work and so put in the name and city/state.

a bunch of names came up and I clicked on hers, whitepages had her highlighted and it simply said "premium result". There was no sign up or question about signing up for "premium results" there was in fact no result given at all! I tried a name look up again thinking I did something wrong, and nope, same thing. I closed out of the webpage tab.

Meanwhile my friend responded with her street number and I went to her house. Later that night, I came home my email had a letter from my credit card company saying whitepages had tried to charge my credit card, which I didn't give them so I thought it was a phishing scam. I checked the email header and it looked legitimately from my cc company so I closed that and went on another tab to their site and checked my recent charges. Sure enough, white pages had tried to charge my credit card $29.95 for premium services.

I have no idea how they identified me and moreover, got hold of my credit card, like I said, I didn't fill anything out or give them my card number or even my name. I immediately cancelled my credit card after calling the fraud line. I will be doing a virus and malware check on my computer at work tomorrow and tonight am putting out warnings and I posted an alert to the BBB. This is beyond a scam now and is to the level of a malicious computer ***/attack.

Please beware and if you see any "results" for a search with whitepages as the link, do not click on it.

If you find yourself on their webpage, close it immediately and scan your pc with you virus protection and anti-spyware malware. BE CAREFUL!

Reason of review: charges for nothing, malware.

Monetary Loss: $150.

Whitepages Cons: Charges attempted to credit card i did not supply, No service rendered, Tried to charge fraudulently obtained credit card.

Whitepages just charged my Paypal debit card, ($16.98) I never even had any business with them. The charge showed up, PP blocked it, and shut off my debit card, sending a new one, what a scam, lost no money, but lost time dealing with it. Someone hacked PP debit card info?

On my credit card there was a purchase with Whitepages in the description for $49.99. Thankfully two days later it was reversed.

But I did not give them my credit card number! Will report tomorrow.

They tried to charge me 119.99$, luckily I found out right away, talked to my Credit Card, they canceled my card and issued me a new one. They said they are investigating the problems. I dont know how whitepages got my CC info, I never use their website.
